How to Get Recommended by ChatGPT — A Simple Guide
When you search on Google, you get a list of links. When you ask ChatGPT, Copilot or Gemini, you get an answer that mentions a few sources — or none at all. More and more searches are moving to chatbots, which is why showing up in AI recommendations matters.
How do the bots pick their sources?
AI tools don’t browse the web the way Google does. They use search indexes, previously crawled pages and partnerships. When a bot answers a question, it favors pages where:
- the answer is stated clearly and directly
- content is organized around questions, not marketing language
- facts are current and accurate
Make your site clear for bots
1. Answer questions directly. Write the answers to your customers’ most common questions on your site — just like you would reply to an email. Skip the empty marketing-speak.
2. Use clear headings. A heading like “FAQ: delivery times and returns” tells a bot more than “Everything you need to know about customer service”.
3. Build an FAQ section. Question–answer pairs are the easiest format for a bot to read. They work well for search engines too.
4. Keep your facts straight. Bots prefer pages whose details hold up. Outdated prices and schedules hurt trust.
Example: a local café
A café website often says just “high-quality coffee with a great atmosphere”. Compare this:
“Open Mon–Fri 8am–5pm, Sat 9am–3pm. Gluten-free pastries daily, vegan option on request. Card payments and MobilePay. Laptops welcome — power outlets by the window seats.”
The second one answers the questions people — and bots — actually ask.
Checklist
- Answer questions in plain language
- Organize content under clear headings
- Add an FAQ section
- Update details regularly
- Cover the basics: a fast site and clear writing
